Is your Will up to date?
Events that effect the validity of your Will are:
- marriage, also that of an heir;
- divorce, also that of an heir;
- a birth of a child/heir ;
- receipt of an inheritance;
- entry into new financial commitments
- deterioration in health of a family member
- purchase or sale of a new home/additional property;
- death of family member/heir;
- growth in the value of your estate,
- Should any one of the above events occur in your life, you may need to revise your Will.
We at J Leslie Smith and Company can prepare your Will for you and advise you on aspects such as:
- the appointment of a guardian to your minor children;
- the creation of a trust in terms of your Will to provide for any minors who may inherit in terms of your Will;
- estate planning to suit your particular circumstances and needs which may include the creation of a Trust during your lifetime;
- the effect of Capital Gains Tax, if any, on you and your estate;
- other aspects relevant to your estate
It is desirable to have an up to date and valid Will.
Should you die without a Will, or with an invalid Will, your estate will be wound up in accordance with the Law of Intestate Succession, which takes away from you the right to leave your estate to whom you believe it should devolve upon.
In addition, important issues such as the appointment of an Executor, a Trustee or Guardian to your minor children are taken out of your hands.
Our firm does not charge to draw up a standard Will. We furthermore are able to store your Will in our strong room at no cost to you so that there is no possibility of your Will going astray prior to your death.
Our advice to you is: Check your Will if you have one, and if you need your Will updated or alternatively, if you do not have a Will
