19 May 2011 - SARS e-Filing Workshop: Transfer Duy

The JLS team attended a SARS workshop, on Thursday 19 May, for transfer duty via e-filing.  Compulsory e-filing was initiated on 1 January 2011, but was postponed due to implementation issues on the SARS system. The system has been up and running again since 1 April 2011 and we are pleased to report that JLS has been using the system correctly.

Clients must take note that the turnaround time for the issuing of an e-filing transfer duty receipt is 10 working days. However,  should the matter be queried for any reason, the 10 working days commences again from the date on which the application is re-submitted.  The turnaround time for a manual application was quicker but this option is, unfortunately, no longer offered by SARS.

Most of the initial teething problems have been dealt with by SARS and the workshop was useful in clarifying outstanding problem areas. SARS indicated that they are sending a representative to meet with the Developers of the system shortly, armed with the queries and concerns raised by conveyancers who attended the workshop. They have undertaken to let us have feedback as soon as possible.

The SARS team leader from the Pietermaritzburg office has confirmed that should we get no response to our queries from SARS e-filing via the protocol systems i.e. call centre & e-filing assist, then we are welcome to email her directly and she will take the matter further.

We would like to assure all our clients that our transfer duty applications are always attended to on an urgent basis, and that we will endeavor to resolve any problems encountered with the minimum possible delay.
